何謂"原酒"(Cask Strength)?
指不加水稀釋,維持原本橡木桶內酒精濃度直接裝瓶的威士忌。一般威士忌裝瓶前都會加水稀釋到40%-43%,而原桶強度的威士忌原酒,酒精濃度則在50%-65%之間,但這不代表酒標上標示酒精濃度超過50%以上的威士忌,就一定是原酒,原酒在瓶身酒標上一定會註明"Cask Strength"的字樣。
一般市面上會有兩種原酒型態的商品, 一種是單一橡木桶陳年後的威士忌原酒直接裝瓶,酒標上會標示非常清楚的資訊如桶號/蒸餾年月/裝瓶年月/裝瓶數量....等等。另外一種是整批橡木桶與酒廠內其他同年份不同桶號的麥芽威士忌原酒調和。
Whisky that has not been diluted with water after being drained from the cask. When the whisky is bottled it usually has between 50% and 60% abv left.This generally makes for a much stronger tasting whisky, and of course has a higher alcohol content.
